Happy Friday!

Thank the Maker. Another week employed. Another week not drowning in my own fluids. Another week of sweet, sweet health insurance. How lucky is that? I hope you all are similarly blessed this week. Sorry about last week, for anyone that was looking forward to additional pages. I need to work on Sanctuary by myself for a bit. There are some themes and bits in there that need time to grow, so I’m going to develop that one off-line for a while.

I want to explore some ideas about alienation, conformity, what it means when other people think they know best and when they’re right…stuff like that. And the last fourteen pages I wrote for it are just mindless doodlings about what it would be like to be a shapeshifter and don’t actually provide any good plot, so I had to scrap them. Sigh. Fun to think about though.

Anyway, this week’s story is called “Bad Company” and it came out pretty well. I like the random roll method for when I can’t be bothered to be creative and it gives me a chance to experiment with different voices, perspectives, and themes that I normally wouldn’t touch on my own. I think it’s fun to go back to see the raw prompts and the resultant story as well. It’s an insight into my state of mind at various times under different stimuli that I think is kind of neat. Here we are: Bad Company for your reading pleasure. Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments below!

In medic school this week, we are learning about environmental health impacts and treatment for shock, so maybe that’s why I picked burns? Who knows. Just as a little bit of fun, it turns out that there is a creature called a tox medic that specializes in hazardous material decontamination and treatment under HAZWOPER conditions. They also have a boatload more medications to work with. I am deeply intrigued. If I don’t pass out from fear in my clinicals coming up, I would like to continue doing this. For a couple years, at least. Seems like I have to change jobs about every three years anyway, so unless NASA calls, this bot has to pay the bills somehow. Kitty has to eat, you know.

Interesting to see where this hobby will end up.
