Post 40
Brr. Winter has reared its ugly head yet again. Fortunately, we are all quarantined in our homes anyway, praying that the Pale Rider will spare our meager souls for one more year.
So, it’s going great.
I am currently reading, Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured. It’s a real nail-biter. No, it’s not. There was a truly spectacular picture of a woman going through anaphylaxis. Her tongue had swollen up to fill her entire mouth and was actually spilling through her lips. Like she was holding a tongue-colored grapefruit between her lips, with her mouth distended like a Day of the Dead laughing skull. Very evocative.
I will be volunteering my humble skills at our local House of Healing shortly. If they still need people. Which I’m sure they will. I’ve volunteered to drop my hours at work and spend some quality time caring for the sick and injured during this time. Least I can do.
Wish me luck. There’s no PPE available and we have so many old people here…just so many.
In other news, I’ve posted a new short-story in the Misc Shorts section called, “A Bewildering Prophecy of Mercy.” For those of you new to this site, I try to put up new stories/pages weekly. Occasionally, when I get stumped or when I just want some practice, I pull out my DnD dice and roll up a character, pull some random scenarios from die rolls and then use Rory’s story cubes to put together a totally random series of images/plot devices and see what kind of story I can come up with. This is one of those stories. For this one, I rolled an evil chaotic tiefling wizard, skilled engineer/scientist multi-classed healer with a background as a disillusioned technician.
Rory’s story cubes showed an alien, beast, abacus, clock, keyhole, letter, teepee, sheep, magnifying glass, high-rise.
My DM story card showed animal calls, musky odor, a horrific nightmare in a laboratory.
And there we are. Please enjoy. I like doing these little exercises to quickly bump up creativity and do something weird. Especially when I’m not feeling creative. Story is available here: A Bewildering Prophesy of Mercy
Godspeed, duckies. Stay safe out there.
