Greetings and salutations. It’s been a rough couple months. New job working for the Army as a senior engineer. Moved to Colorado. My new house froze because it was -20 degrees all last week (brr), and I had to move 2500 lbs of books on ice. Never again. Digital all the way. Take these heavy lumps of paper OUT of my life. I’m keeping most of the reference books for engineering, but the rest of it MUST GO. My frame is not rated for that level of muscular commitment.

For this month’s entertainment news, may I recommend to interested readers that they sign up for Fantasy/Science Fiction magazine immediately? It’s only $36 for the year and there are some really wonderful stories. Just remarkable writers out there. The editors also include a ‘what to read’ section for relevant genres (and games, though I don’t read those much). It’s a real gem. Please support them, you’ll be very happy with the result. Also, Shonen JUMP only costs about $1 a month. Affordable manga on tap? Yes, please! And all digital, so I don’t have to haul around any more heavy bricks? I’ll take that. I’m currently reading Demon Slayer, Yona of the Dawn, Coyote, and Wotakoi. Coyote Volume 3 is out. The art is good. The characters are decent. Yona is starting to disappoint a little. Too many volumes where nothing much happens, so I’m running out of steam. And the wait for Wotakoi continues….

Anyway. I’m currently taking a teaching certificate course (because I was bored and medical school didn’t want me), a wastewater treatment plant operator course (which is delightfully practical and filled with CHEMISTRY), and my favorite kung fu instructor has just added weapons work to the class line up, so I can add staff and broadsword to my training. Outstanding. If Colorado insists on being a frigid northern wasteland, I can at least be occupied doing useful things for people who pay me appropriately.

Finally, I splurged and bought a kotatsu as a housewarming present. If you live somewhere cold and don’t have one of these little treasures, invest. I’m a HUGE FAN.

Do it. You won’t regret it. I’m getting rid of my mattress next because the damn thing is way to hard to move by yourself. The Japanese are brilliant.
