Hello, gentle readers.
I have NEWS!
So. Let us see. In the beginning, there was a move and a new job. Now, there is a new city, a sort-of-new-job, and a PhD! That’s right, fellow nerdicans. I have finally succumbed to my weakness for ego-tripping academia and have been accepted to a PhD program in environmental engineering. I’ll still be a doctor, just not the useful kind. And it will take forever since I am getting transferred to….TOKYO. That’s right, folks. Finally, my deep, unquenchable thirst for manga can run amok in the Land of the Rising Sun.
I took a lateral promotion (yes, you read that correctly. God, the DoD is a fantastic mess of a place) to go work for the Air Force, where, evidently, the streets are paved with gold and no one does anything all day but play ping pong or nap in their loungers. Or so I’ve heard. I mean, that’s what we all thought they did, back when I was an actual soldier.
Anyway, between learning Japanese (again), starting the PhD (I have to formally take fluid dynamics before they’ll let me take the real classes, so I’m FINALLY completing that class), doing my actual day job, completing my Wastewater Operator Class D licensing exam (that’s right, folks. One more license to kill in my box of certifications. I have an actual craft now. Like a person who works for a living), and preparing for an OCONUS adventure, I have completely neglected my little writing hobby. And I will continue to do so until my brain power exceeds the bullshit load and I again have room to contemplate poor Burke/Hoshi and Des. I really like the story, I just don’t have bandwidth left at the end of the day to do anything but stare vacantly at reruns of Futurama and think about nothing. Mmm. Napping. Maybe think about napping. So tired. All the time. Are maids that expensive? Live-in cooks? Can someone just roll me over occasionally and pour food into me so I don’t die?
Ah, life is good. I feel very, very happy right now.
